Sibel, 25, lives with her father and sister in an isolated village in the Turkish mountains, in the Black Sea region. She is mute and communicates with her surrounding environment via the language of whistling, which is part of the province’s ancient tradition. She is lonely, isolated, and spends her time hunting a wolf who strolls around the area and agitates the women of the village. During her wandering she meets a wounded refugee. He is both threatening and vulnerable at the same time. He is the first to look at her with different eyes.
“Sibel” won three awards at the Locarno Festival.
